Earl Pickens @ Acoustic Long Island (1/16/08)

Right here is a well performed intimate night at Acoustic Long Island, a cool little joint in St. James, Long Island. Earl Pickens, solo with acoustic guitar, sang songs, told stories/jokes, and entertained the warm crowd. Above are two of the songs he played, "Can I Turn On The Radio?", and at 4:35, "The Devil's Convoy".

Here's what Earl says about the song, "The Devil's Convoy", on his blog…

"The Devil’s Convoy" is my contribution to two genres I have always personally enjoyed: truckin’ songs and songs about satan. The song presupposes that the Devil drives a Kenworth, and that he uses it to haul lost souls back to Hell. (Capitalized for effect). It also suggests that he brings 36 other big rigs along with him, in order to get the total wheel count up to 666. (Do the math: 37×18).
"The Devil’s Convoy" is a cautionary tale: lay off the whiskey, cocaine, loose women, gambling, carousing and smoking or you’ll end up you-know-where with you-know-who. Yes, this song suggests that smoking cigarettes will damn your soul for eternity. My thoughts on the lesser vices (nail biting, yodeling off-key) are not tendered herein."

Another song Earl played that night was "True Too". Check it out…
