Around this time Jon Weinstein evolved his Johnny Styne persona as a triangle playing singer with an affinity for The Doors. Johnny Styne likened himself as The Triangle King, as to Jim Morrison: The Lizard King. Here he is performing The Doors' "Break On Through" on Muchaba Live WLIR 92.7FM.

Johnny Styne @ Downtown (5/19/02)

On this day Johnny Styne opened for some crappy band at Downtown, LI. Styne used the same material from his past performances, but this time I candidly filmed him before the show. Well...not so candidly. Jon was well aware of the mic I clipped to his lapel. To me, this is the funny stuff. We should have done more of this. Just Johnny Styne walking up to people, making them uncomfortable and playing air guitar in their faces.

Jon Weinstein - Comedian

Though Jon Weinstein fronted Bionic Liver, his main contribution to the Unscene was his humor. For a while Jon was actively pursuing a career in comedy. In the late 90's or early 00's Jon auditioned as a VJ for MTV. I'm not sure if any of his bits made it on air or if they were spec (maybe someone can shine some light on that?), but it did add to his portfolio.

Jon was always "on". Even after his Bellmore: The Unscene interview when the cameras stopped rolling – except for Scott Jacobs' candid camera – Jon was still doing his shtick...

Weinstein's Stipulation


From 2002 to 2004 Jon created the character Johnny Styne and tried his hand in stand-up. I've got some footage of his act but I'll save it for tomorrow's post.

Currently, Jon is MIA from Bellmore's Unscene. If you're reading this Jon...come back, we miss you.
