Random Photo: Adrenachrome (1996)

The Hoffman Estate 9/2/96

In September of '96 John Hoffman hosted a party at his house with musical performances by Adrenachrome, Rat Bastard and Zombula 451˚ (there may have been others...not sure). The only photo I have from the day is of Adrenachrome – which also happens to be the only Adrenachrome photo I have. I also have recordings from Adrenachrome and Zombula that Brian Gressler taped (vocals are a little hot) – nothing from Rat Bastard.

Conaboy's Basement (1995)

I brought my girlfriend (now wife) to this party in Jim Conaboy's basement, back in '95. We stayed for Rat Bastard and the debut of Adrenachrome, but then it became too much for her so we left...she's not from Bellmore. The one thing that stands out in my mind was when Adrenachrome took the floor, Deluca asked Scott to play a "E" chord so he could tune up. Scott's note was so low that Dave had to detune his bass about two steps down. In other words...they were heavy.

Lucky for me, someone video taped the rest of the show. They must've got to the party after Rat Bastard and Adrenachrome because those bands aren't on the tape...unfortunately. I can't for the life of me remember who gave me this tape or who shot it, but I remember receiving it when I was nearly completed with Bellmore: The Unscene, so the footage didn't make it into the movie. I did use the shot of Jim doing his Travis Bickle (Taxi Driver) impersonation because it was easy enough to swap in.

Here's Whatsoever performing "Profane Barnacle" and "Flash And Fold"...though the camera is rarely on them...instead capturing all the freaks at the party...



And here's almost a full set from Zombula 451˚. "I Killed Ghandi" gets cut off while the camera guy searches for a good spot, but then it's smooth sailing for "No Fear", "Love Affair", "Gotta Go" and "End Of The World"...

Adrenachrome (1995 - 1996)

Having only seen them once, I don't really have much to say about this band. Adrenachrome was Mike Walch's first foray into the Bellmore music "unscene". He started the band with guitarist Scott Reid (Twisted Cross, Disciplinary Action) and the music was extremely heavy and dark – Death Metal. Dave Deluca filled in on bass for about a year, "as a favor to Mike", but made it clear it wasn't permanent – he was in other bands and stuff. The drummer's girlfriend wound up taking over for Dave on bass but that was the beginning of the end.

Here's a 5 song demo Adrenachrome recorded in '95 or '96. I know one track is called "Misery"...the rest all I can make out is "raaaaaaawwwwwwrrrrrrr!"

Disciplinary Action

Like my last post (Situated Chaos) Disciplinary Action were not actually a Bellmore band – they were all from Oceanside, Long Island. But there are Bellmore connections...

"USA Rules!", the fourth song on Disciplinary Action's self-titled demo, was a Justified Violence song. After Justified Violence broke up Ron Bianco and Pete Casano went on to form Twisted Cross with guitarist Scott Reid (who later formed Disciplinary Action). Twisted Cross would play the Justified Violence song and Scott then played it with Disciplinary Action. Scott would also later go on to form Adrenachrome with Bellmore's very own Mike Walch – which I'll get to at a later date.
