Zombula 451° vs. Rat Bastard @ Juke Joint (Christmas 12/25/99)

One of my biggest regrets – when it comes to Bellmore – was missing out on this show. Once again, Zombula 451° came out of retirement, this time for their second reunion show at the Juke Joint (click here for the first). And for the occasion – Christmas night – Ron dressed as Santa. This show also marks the beginning of garbage rock in Bellmore (the flyer ended with B.Y.O.G. – "G" for garbage).

Like the year before, Rat Bastard opened the show. Daveman was extremely sick with the flu but still put in an energetic performance. In between and in the middle of songs you can see him walk to the bathrooms to puke.

For Rat Bastard's performance, Christine Frey and Mike Stamberg had their video cameras rolling. Mike's was on a tripod – 'cause he was busy playing – and Christine was sitting right next to it so the edits aren't very dynamic...same angles. Here's Rat Bastard...

To kick off the new year of 1999, Zombula 451˚ came out of retirement for a reunion show at the Juke Joint. This was the show where the band handed out homemade shivs to the audience. Shank Rock!

Opening the show was the debut of Jon Weinstein's "band" Bionic Liver (I'll get to Bionic Liver at a later date). Jon recruited Dave Deluca on bass, Rob Foreman on guitar, and Bobby on drums...

This next song is the only two-camera edit for the night. Up until this point Stamberg's camera was filming the show, but then Scott Jacobs arrived just as the band started playing "Misery" and he began filming. After this song I don't have any more Stamberg footage, just Scott's. And for some reason, Stamberg's camera or Scott's didn't catch the beginning of "Misery" so I had to get creative...

The Elite @ Carol's Place...Sometime In 1991

Here's a pretty cool tape of The Elite performing at Carol's Place..."sometime In 1991" as Ed Calibrito puts it. This was after Dave Deluca left the band and Joe Kollar took over on bass. To get the whole Elite story, watch the video here.

The Elite (1987-1990...or '91?)

When Justified Violence broke up, the band split in half. Bobby S and Jim Collette (when he wasn't playing with Agnostic Front) formed The Elite, while Ron Bianco and Pete Casano formed Twisted Cross. Along the way a life was lost...line-ups changed...and a little jail time.

Looking back, there's a few things I would've done differently to Bellmore: The Unscene. One is including The Elite and Dan Miellie story (it's part of the DVD extras). I was at The Elite/Intellectuals show at La Serayña in 1987. It was the first time the older generation (older by about 4 years) played with the younger generation (my peers)...when you're in you're mid-teens, four years is a big difference. If anything, it showed us that we had a long way to go at being good musicians – The Elite were tight.
